Our experience through all this considerable work was confidence in True Scape Design and the owner Joseph Garel. They installed a Roman paver patio and also graded a hill and installed beautiful risers so we can walk off the new extended composite deck and walk down the risers to a peaceful and beautiful patio. They took out the grass along our driveway and put in blue, and grey stones of different sizes and worked with the rocks already on property. They installed low maintenance perennials, like key Lime Cora Bells, wooly thyme, Japanese holly, slender Hinoki cypress, full moon maple,a Hydrangea, daylily and many more. Castor is great for that.“True Scape Design landscaped four sides of our yard for us. Instead of buying trees and shrubs right away, you can plant some BIG annuals in places where you think you might want trees and shrubs in the future. No one's ever said, "Ugh it looks so disorganized!"Įdit for more thoughts (sorry to go on so long): Since you've only recently moved in, it's going to take you a few years to really get a feel for your outdoor space. Many neighbors have complimented our gardens. It makes ME happy and that's what it's for! And joy is infectious. But then I look at the carnival of color I have. When I read that I was kind of bummed out. The end result is that I have what they call a "collector's garden"- a mish mash of everything. Well, plants are expensive so I tend to only buy one of anything that appeals to me and hope that eventually I'll be able to propagate on my own. The design people say that you should have at least 3 of each type of plant in a bed- arty repetition. And there will always be some "expert" telling you that you're doing it wrong. My favorite gardening quote (don't remember who said it): "If you're not out there killing something, you're doing it wrong," meaning that the only way to really learn is to go ahead and experiment. ![]() At some point you just close the tabs and go play outside. I totally understand the feeling- there's so much that can be learned that it's almost paralyzing. I typed a bit more than I expected, but I hope I gave you an understanding of what we can offer. ![]() If you have any problems with pests, disease, irrigation, or design, we're there to be called upon to tidy it up and keep it all working. We're there to take what you want and make it work for you, offering suggestions along the way. Basically set up your whole garden to how you want it.Īs iamskew said, a landscape gardener isn't going to tell you what to plant and grow. From that point we renovate areas, improve soil, remove pests and weeds, plan irrigation, etc. If you hired me, I'd figure out your gardening routine (ie: are you going to have time to give it major care? or just a minor gardener?) Then I'd ask what sort of plants you'd like to grow (Edible? for colour? Fragrance? Turf? Trees? etc.) Then ask about pricing, how far you're willing to go, and come up with the most efficient and cost-effective way of reforming your garden. The good thing about us, is that once you hire us, the relationship is forever so we have an incentive to do a good job. Landscape designers/horticulturalists are given the information and skills needed to ensure an aesthetically pleasing as well as survivable and waterwise garden. If you know a little bit about what you're doing, you can get away with doing it yourself. I'm currently completing a course to become the guy that you're wanting to hire.
